“STILL VOICE” is a series that seeks to reconstruct the spirit and structure of still life—a form that has been long cherished in the tradition of Western painting—within the context of contemporary visual expression.
Historically, still life (natura morta, bodegón) was never simply about depicting fruit, f lowers, books, or glassware. By rendering “still” objects, it became a quiet vessel for time, mortality, and the ephemerality of matter—preserving that which cannot be seen: decay, absence, and the inevitable passage of life.
Still life was always silent, and yet, within that silence, a voice resounded—unspoken thoughts, latent emotions, and philosophical reflections.
This series is an attempt to summon that voice of silence—a still voice—into the present. Each work in the STILL VOICE series begins with a high-resolution photograph, carefully composed with objects reminiscent of Spanish Baroque bodegón: vessels, fruits, flowers— remnants of a symbolic visual language.
But layered atop this image is a different kind of temporality—sound—collected from the same space and visualized as a sonograph. These sonographs become figures of sound, suspended like glyphs or sculptural forms, placed quietly within the composition. And then, UV ink is poured.
Rather than fixing the image, the ink rejects clarity. It obeys gravity, collapses into itself, and erodes both the photograph and the sonograph beneath it. What once seemed certain becomes blurred; what was visible becomes veiled.
This is not merely a pictorial surface—it is a space where what is seen, what is heard, and what succumbs to physical gravity intersect.
None of these layers are fully legible.
They resist resolution.
And in that shared incompletion, a voice without sound rises—gently—from between time and perception.
STILL VOICE does not seek the perfection of an image.
It locates beauty in the process of formation and dissolution.
Its silence is not mute: it is filled with the voices of things that were never named, but have always been present.
